Old Banyumas


Banyumas, is a district in Central Java Province. Its capital is Purwokerto. This district is bordered by Bradford District in the north; Purbalingga, Banjarnegara District, and Kebumen in the east, and the Cilacap district in the south and west. Mount Slamet, the highest mountain in Central Java, located at the northern end of this district.
Banyumas is part of the Banyumasan culture, which flourished in the western part of Central Java. The language spoken is Banyumasan language, which is one of dialect of Java language is quite different from the standard dialect of Javanese language ("dialect Mataraman") and nicknamed "ngapak language" because the characteristic sound of / k / a read full at the end of words (as distinct dialect Mataraman that read as a glottal stop

Geography
Banyumas district boundaries are:

   
- To the north: Mount Slamet, Tegal regency and district Pemalang.
   
- To the south: Cilacap District
   
- West: Cilacap Regency and Brebes
   
- To the east: Purbalingga, Kebumen and Banjarnegara Regency.

Transportation
Banyumas traversed the country roads that connect the town of Tegal, Purwokerto, Purwokerto-Temangggung-Magelang/Semarang, and the causeway south of Bandung-Yogyakarta-Surabaya. Wangon is the intersection point of Yogyakarta-Bandung, Cilacap and Tegal.

This district also has rail traffic south of Jakarta-Cirebon-Purwokerto-Yogyakarta-Surabaya. Navan Station is the largest station in the western region of Central Java. Culture
Banyumasan culture has its own characteristics that are different from other regions in Central Java, although the roots are still the Javanese culture.
Among the performing arts located in Banyumas, among others:

   
- Puppet Banyumas gagrag skin, is the art of shadow puppets typical Banyumasan. There are two gagrak (style), namely Gragak Gragak Lor Kidul Mountain and Mt. The particular puppet is the breath kerakyatannya gragak Banyumasan so thick in the show.

- Calung, is a musical instrument made of bamboo pieces which are placed crosswise and played with beated.
